  • About: I live in Salt Lake City, Utah... & I have had an awakening in my life & I now value taking care of myself with love for both who I am & the importance of my part that I have in the lives of those around me who mean so much to me. This journey is truly about self love & giving ourselves what it is that we are looking for from the inside vs. trying to continue try to "get" what we want from the outside..... I changed my lifestyle back in 2009 & thought I would share my story with you. I hope that you find support & commitment from seeing what this has done for me. It is truly about so much more than the weight loss for me... I am excited to be a part of the group. This journey & FS&ND have been an absolute life saving lifestyle change for me..... I woke up one Sunday morning in mid 2009 & was searching for something on my phone to kill some time with on Netflix. I enjoy motivational documentaries & you guessed it... I found Fat Sick & Nearly Dead. I remember something moving inside of me when I watched that video & within 7-10 days, I had a juicer & started with a 15 day reboot plan... Today, I am 74 lbs. lighter & have kept the weight off consistently now for approximately 3.5 years (give or take) & I have never looked back. I truly will "Never be the same" (yes, I do have the Soundtrack by The Kin). I also realize that there is always another level above where I am at today. It was an immediate lifestyle change & commitment. I have a very close friend that subscribes to a high level of health & he has encouraged me to share this with others. He told me today that..... "Paul, it is truly a blessing to be apart of your life man & see the changes that you have implemented. I thank God for a great friend like you! Congratulations man, I'm so proud of you. Its amazing, not many people have the fortitude & commitment level that you have, but when you truly commit people need to see what is possible"..... That helped push me over the edge & be willing to share my story with you. It has truly been life changing for me. I believe it has helped me in all areas of my life. I have been able to not only get rid of the weight but most of the toxic behaviors, beliefs, relationships & environments in my life. I use the re framing words of "get rid of", because I believe if you lose something that often times if not always... it manages to come back, we find a way to recreate it... unless there is a fundamental change in your lifestyle. I have gotten rid of not only 74+ lbs. but the sick & toxic beliefs & thoughts that created it in my life...... 2009 - 74 lbs. heavier, toxic & unhappy with most all parts of my life. I was mentally, emotionally & physically in a downward spiral (see attached before picture). It's hard for me to look at that photo... I often get very emotional when I look back at what I was doing to myself back then... My life & my relationships were literally killing me & I see that now, & thank God that I managed to be blessed enough to be given an awakening... I haven't been willing to share that with very many people. It was embarrassing to me. The same friend wanted me to send a picture of myself so he could see where I was at now. That was the beginning of a very emotional morning for me as I feel that my heart is full of gratitude for such a gift. I feel so much better inside than you can see from the outside (see today's photo 2/27/2014)..... Both Joe, Phil & FS&ND have been a very spiritual & motivational turning point in my life. They have been a part of showing me that there is a new way to live & love life. I will be forever thankful to them for that. I own the movie & I have been able to share this gift with many of those I have rubbed shoulders with whether it be who I work with or those that are most important to me in my life & who I value. I started a new job 5/2013 & I have shared my passion with several people. I enjoy giving away small glasses juice, so people can taste the different juices that I make. Since 5/2013, without asking people to try juicing, I have 6-8 people in my smaller office who are juicing & several who have downloaded the "101 Juices" iPhone App. That only brings me more gratitude for what I have been given. I absolutely feel that it is imperative for me to share the blessing I have been given. This has been a spiritual journey for me & about so much more than the weight loss... & I believe that it helped save my life. I've been told that you can not only see it outwardly but that you can hear it come from within me, in my voice, in my actions & in the way I view life & my perceptions of the opportunities within it. Life is a blessing & it's meant to be lived, cherished & enjoyed... not endured..... Thanks to Joe, Phil & FS&ND for inspiring me to "Never be the same" again & always be searching for the next level..... (the before & after pictures for this are under the "view all" options of my photos for my profile)

    Presence

"C'mon. Hurry. Let's go," my friend said, shifting nervously from one foot to the other.

I looked around. Another friend, Michael, had just walked into the room. I hadn't seen him for a while. I felt compelled to go over and talk to him, even though I didn't have anything important to say.

"Please, let's go," my friend said again. I started to leave with him, then changed my mind.

"Give me just a few minutes," I said, walking away from my friend and moving toward Michael. We didn't talk about much, Michael and I. But I'll never forget that conversation. He was killed in an accident two weeks later.

Some people suggest that our biggest regret when we die will be that we didn't work less and spend more time with the people we love. That may be true, but for me, I think it will be that I wasn't more completely present for each person, task, and moment in my life.

Action: Do you remember the "stop, look, and, listen" slogan from when you were a child? Every so often, even for a few minutes each day, try to remember to practice it.

Slow down or stop - depending on how fast you're going.

Look - see where you are, whom you're with, what you're doing. Give whatever you're doing your attention.

Listen - as much as possible, quell your anxiety, cease your mental chatter, and just listen to nature, to other people, to God, and to yourself.

Sending you light, love, laughter and happiness from Japan!! It is now "Golden Week"....our annual spring holiday. The cherry blossoms are pretty much gone....so I am going to have fun visiting a local farm the next few days. All-U-can-eat strawberries for 30 minutes. Wonder if there is a plug for my juicer in that vinyl house!! LOL! Stay "genki"....

    Hi Lia,

Thank you for reaching out... I needed that this morning. I have been so wrapped up in packing, moving, trying to unpack & find a renter for my previous rental that I have been preoccupied... I will admit that I had to look up the meaning of "genki", is this correct?

"It would be used in a sentence such as "genki desu ka", which just means are you in good spirits/how have you been. Basically it means good spirits/feeling well."

If so, I am feeling a little stressed, frustrated & discouraged... while I am in the middle of everything that I described above, I bought a new iPhone yesterday & I was diligent in backing my old phone up just before I went to the Apple Store so that I could simply just restore the backup to my new phone but didn't realize that I had used an encryption password to set up my backups a few years ago & now I need to remember it so that I do not lose 2000+ contact, photos & all the other data that I have been accumulating over the years & I cannot remember it for the life of me... so I spent the day trying different workarounds & still not any further ahead... Trying to find my peace & calm this morning before I go back in for another appointment at the Apple Store this morning...

I have found that when life gets busy (especially with mandatory to-do lists & hard set timelines), it makes it very difficult to maintain balance & my peace & calm. This mornings better than yesterday & I am going to try to focus on remembering that I cannot control any of this & just do the best I can do & then let it go... but that is sometimes easier said than done... so thanks again for reaching out to me & checking in... it helped me refocus a little & try to stay present & "be" the peace & calm I desire... at least until I get to the Apple Store!

    :o)

Update - after all day yesterday with an Apple "Expert" to find a work around, I started at 5:00 a.m. this morning trying to figure out a work around myself... amazingly, not being an Apple "Expert", somehow I was able to try random fixes & was able to restore the phone so that I may only lose about one weeks worth of data (until I can somehow possibly remember a password from years ago to recover the rest), rather than a lifetimes worth (at least 20 years worth of contacts, pictures & data anyway...) & it was amazing how that immediately changed my stress level & let my peace & calm back in... I still would like to one day accomplish reaching the level of self mastery where I am able to walk through an experience like that without letting it affect me... one day at a time, one level at a time though... Once again Lia, thanks for reaching out to me... it was amazing how much it helped just to post a reply to you on my wall...

The art of becoming... learn to just be... "be" the peace & calm that I desire...

Thought you might like this, Paul!! Wishing you a super wonderful day!!

    Hi Lia,

I love this kind of stuff... please share whenever you find a really good one! These thoughts seem to stick with me & sometimes better than reading a book cover to cover...

What I imagined when I first read this was the Fear I feel when my shell is cracking & I feel like my insides are all coming out... I often wonder how many experiences like this are happening in my life, how many of them I have the necessary courage to allow them to happen & how many I shut down because of my fear... then I wonder what growth I have missed out on. I try to make good decisions & practice the courage to allow God to work in my life & bring me the change that I am in need of & then allow it to happen & trust Him & myself to take care of me... I am doing better at this in my life now but it's still scary sometimes. I try to remind myself of another thought when I am feeling scared or afraid...

"If you Fear what you will experience, you have already experienced that which you Fear..."

Paul....glad you liked it!! And I really appreciate the quote you included. I just watched a few dvds on the topic....John Gabriel goes into detail about how our fears, which cause chemical reactions in the brain as if we are actually experiencing some kind of real trauma, make it extremely difficult to drop excess weight. In addition to drinking more juice and water, getting more sleep and trying to control my stress levels...I have decided to make this a religious experience as well. I have begun to read my bible daily....and am really enjoying the detox that comes from cleaning my soul, as well. Stay genki....and keep on enjoying your wonderful transformation!!

I would love to watch the videos that you mentioned by John Gabriel, were they on Netflix or did you rent them? I would appreciate it if you would send me the name of the ones that you watched & if you found them on Netflix or not... Have a great day & take care of yourself...

    Thank you!

Paul....here's a little something I wrote (in response to the seed quote) in BB's group....enjoy!!

    --------------------------------------------------

I am coming undone these days, and yes, I am actually beginning to enjoy all the chaos. LOL! It has taken some time, but I'm finally beginning to make peace with all of the headaches, nightly food cravings, mood swings, sudden tears, nightmares, bursts of anger, questions about forgotten childhood memories that are coming to light...they are all here to serve an amazing purpose on my journey. Without these important "road markers," I would still be a miserable 307-pound woman.

It so reminds me of how the sand from the ocean constantly swirls around inside of an oyster, polishing its pearl. Of course, that isn't the entire story. We see the pearl and marvel at how the sand brings out its shine....but are usually not aware that it is the same sand that irritates the oyster to the point that it secretes a liquid that ultimately solidifies to form that priceless gem. Without the sand, there would be no pearl...no radiant shine. What an epiphany!!

Finally, I am beginning to understand and appreciate the true meaning behind my REBOOT. And I truly understand the significance of having to wade through a host of negative emotions these days. My shell is completely cracked open....and I, too, am being polished!! The juices I drink are forcing me to face both past and present irritants in my life...and are encouraging me to adopt and adapt to a totally different way of doing and being. By consciously and steadily facing these hardships head on, I am slowly being transformed into an amazing work of art.

As with seeds and oysters, being vulnerable to change comes with a price....as well as a valuable present! Similarly, what a beautiful gift we are being granted. Thank you, Joe and staff, for stirring up that sand around our shells. Forever grateful....I finally, without a doubt, get what "the journey" into self represents.

Great analogy Lia. Thanks for sharing your heartfelt thoughts with the group & especially myself. I think we relate so well with each other & what this lifestyle change & the "journey" is really all about. I believe that to sustain any lifestyle change long term it is imperative that we find ways to dig deeper & connect it all together, past, present & future. I am glad to have you as what I chose to refer to as a "recovery partner", it means a lot to me.

    Thank you!

P.S. Do you have any of the names of the movies that you watched referring to fear & the chemical changes in our bodies, so I can jump right to what I am looking for & then I can sift through the rest later. If you do not remember the names or wouldn't recognize them if you see them by looking them back up, that is okay, I will work my way through them. I would like to cut to the chase though initially if I can.

Thanks again - have a blessed day, ask for what you need & watch for His hand as He brings it to you!

Our Greatest Fear ~ it is our light not our darkness that most frightens us

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous,
    talented and fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other
people won't feel insecure around you.

We were born to make manifest the glory of
    God that is within us.

It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
    we unconsciously give other people
    permission to do the same.

As we are liberated from our own fear,
    Our presence automatically liberates others.

I juiced for about 5 weeks & allowed myself a nice salad in the evenings... for about 3 of those 5 weeks... Now after taking a break for about a week, I am ready to get back at it again! I have done the strict juice fast but I found that I like juicing for the day & a salad in the evenings if I feel like chewing... or a treat (funny how I view a nice salad as a treat now...), it helped me break through a plateau & gave me a different mental outlook... towards juicing. I still like to do a quarterly Juice only fast but this adaptation has helped me do more juice & better evening choices that digest easier for the prolonged periods of time in between... I like the way my body feels more when I was following this protocol... Once again this does not devalue to benefits of the juice only fast, just another idea & it helped me lose more weight on a consistent week to week basis & felt like it was easier than the extended fasts...

Please try again, after you delete that "ODD" word. I feel like solving this issue. How about you? I have to solve all the unsolved mysteries. Guess that's why I like to watch the TV show, "Cold Case." lol /BB

Hello, Paul... I appreciated your message to my inbox today. But when I tried to reply several times, it gave me the above message. "ODD," isn't it? Maybe it doesn't like 3-ltr words.

I'm not done trying though, and we will talk later.... /BB

That's what yours was doing the other day when I told you... what did you do in your settings? Because it worked to reply to your message right after whatever you did...?

Paul, I didn't know how to fix the correct settings as they are not very clear with their labels. So I just made ALL my settings PUBLIC and that fixed it. Before I already had some of them Public but others were just Friends. and nothing worked for me when switching them around. Just click on Settings, and then make them ALL Public unless you have a better idea. In fact, I am gonna check my own settings again. I think they change somehow.... Good Luck. I will try to REPLY to your mssg. later again... BB
