Love the outdoors, am a fix-it person, and really enjoy just hitting the trails. Have gradually been gaining weight for years, just a little bit at a time - a couple pounds a year and have reached the 155# mark, I should be at 120#. Have tried many diets but can't seem to focus my days around menus, counting calories, taking pills. None of the diets have been a life commitment. I have been raw vegan, paleo, and most everything in between. Raw vegan made me healthy, I liked paleo but can't see it as a life style. Juice only reboot sounds like a great kick in the pants and then a great transition into good eating. Joe has a great plan and I need to spend my next 66 years healthy!
  • Why I've Joined Reboot with Joe: I need to get my body back onto a healthy track and an excellent weight loss plan to boot!
  • Favorite Juice? Whatever my garden is producing!
  • Food temptation? Everything, that's my problem! (except brussel sprouts and anchovies)

Hi everyone. Is this group still going? I'm 70, 50 lbs lighter, exercise very often (even able to take a 55 minute Zumba class! I just went to buy a pair of slacks because my clothes are falling off of me. Down 6 sizes and they are a little loose! I'm doing a 5 day juicing starting today. Been several months of transitioning. Learned I cannot tolerate certain foods... great result of the reboot program. If the senior group is still here, please respond! Thanks!

Transitioning out of my 60 day juice only has been enjoyable so far. Currently on day 2 and I like the change. Will continue juicing at least 2x a day. Smoothies have been great to get back to, love my Vitamix as well as the new recipes of Joe's. Will continue with Joe's transition plan this week and then start veering off to new and old plant based meals. Pretty much "milking" the kitchen out, won't be going shopping until Thursday and things are getting low and the garden is dwindling fast. I have been making note of dry goods that I need to remember to pick up, I will try to go back to 90% raw for the summer and do a bit of Vitaclay crockpot cooking outside as the summer heat keeps working it's way up the thermometer (98F yesterday).

Day 56 - will start a slow transition back on Monday. Go in for a colonic on Wednesday. Will weigh in Monday morning and see how much I still have to lose. This has been a great kick-start to healthier living for me and will do another juice-only reboot in the future just no commitment right now. Last weigh in was 136# and have 16 more to go to be at ideal. Would like to forever keep my weight under 130 at the very max. Still have a tough time with straight green drinks so will always need to add a bit of fruit to make some of them tolerable. Just tried juicing eggplant yesterday. Joe said he would never try it (wonder why??) and it was actually very good. I used baby eggplant so the bitterness was not there as yet.

    On to juice-on day!

Day 51 - still juice only. Have started straining my juice as too much pulp was passing through. Have lost 18# and have minimum of 10 to go but would like to eventually make that a total 35# loss (current weight is 137#). That averages out to about 1/3# a day which I have not been thrilled with. I am 5'1" so 120# give or take would be ideal for me. I will continue my juice-only reboot to 60 days and then start with a good long transition and continue to incorporate juices along with a healthy lifestyle.

So happy for you LuRae! That is exceptional. Makes me wonder if I should go longer. I still have 3 days more to finish a 15 day reboot. I will think about it some more to make a decision. I still have a bunch of weight to give away.

I know it can be a tough decision, you've got three days to mull it over.

You and I don't live that far apart. I'm just a bit north and west of Yuba City (couple hours).

    Have a good evening!

Soon to start Day 41, can't believe that I'm not tired of this yet! New juicer came today so made the days juices and it's a big thumbs up! Hot today, I may have to turn a drink into a slushy tomorrow. Had 98f in the house (no air conditioning) but got a good cross wind to make it all a little bearable. Spend a good portion of the day in my shop and on the porch just to stay out of the drenching heat. Anyway, all is good. Wish I could figure out a way to rotate the pic

Day 40 - slight burp in day 39 as I took one of my grandsons to his 9th birthday lunch with some one on one time with grandma. He had pancakes and I had a salad with balsamic vinegar. It was an eyeopener to me that I cannot do it again, creates adverse reactions of just wanting to blow the whole day. It had nothing to do with cravings or hunger just rebelliousness. When I realized it was the last day I would have to use the old centrifugal juicer (new Slowstar arrives today!) then that created the fire I needed to send it out with a bang so juiced all I would need until FedX arrives. HURRAY!

Day 38 and down 18#, super hot yesterday (99f) today a bit overcast so that should cool things off a bit. My garden is sulking, wants sun but doesn't want this heat. My Colorado seeds were not meant for my new home in Northern California - better choices will be made for next year! Still shooting for 60 days or 30# whichever comes first. Energy returning finally, no health concerns - Yea!!

Glad this day is coming to a close. Went to the dentist prepared for an extraction. He felt the tooth was viable enough to try and save. Should be crowned but I don't have a spare $1800 so he put a post in it, filled it (composite), and said we need to watch the one in back of that as it's abscessed. Sent me home with painkiller, some real crappy tasting mouthwash for the abscess and antibiotics. I'd much rather have spent the $400 on more fruits and veggies! Needless to say the juicing has not been to schedule today and neither has the water. No added foods or cheating, will get back on track tomorrow. Day 36 today!

Day 35 - Still sitting at 15# GONE. Hoping to make that number 25-30 before I transition out of the juice only reboot. We'll see if my body starts signaling to stop otherwise I'll keep shooting for the stars! Today is "head to the city" for produce except the stuff my garden is blessing me with. It will be a long day...

New juicer should arrive next Monday, YEA!!!

Senior citizens have a unique perspective on health. We have more issues to be considered than weight loss. Although some of us are in this for weight loss, we struggle with issues like strength/mobility, bone health, and other health problems associated with aging. I am going to be 70 in 2014 and my husband and I are raising 2 grandchildren, so it is in my best interest to stay healthy as I continue to "age gracefully". I have done several reboots/juice fasts. I am 80-85% raw and 100% vegan. If there are any other senior citizens going through this reboot with Joe, let's hear from you. Good luck!
