• Why I've Joined Reboot with Joe: Because Joe and Phil inspired me! I juiced for 120+ days and lost over 70 pounds! I'm loving life! About 100 days after I started my juice fast I found this site! I love the community here and look forward to continue to juice and get healthier. I did this to get my life back. I did it so my family could have their Father / husband back. And so I could improve my overall health! Since losing the weight I found a new me! After all the activity on my blog, I wanted to promote and pay forward healthier living! My Reboot With Joe profile link is: You can click on that or copy and paste it in the browser and it will take you directly to my profile page here on RebootWithJoe. I also signed up to be an Independent Team BeachBody Coach! Since I used their products to help me shed the pounds. And since they give away $500 a day, each day, I figure why not? Now I get a discount on their items (25% off), a chance to win one of the $500.00 daily prizes and who knows... maybe even the $100,000 they give each year. All this just for taking care of myself! Why not? I use this free account for tracking goals, weight loss, etc... To get yours, use this link; and I will be your "coach!" We can connect there too! I truly believe that Highly Nutritional Calories are the BEST way to fuel and nourish the body! My blog is And a juice... a juice is one of the better ways to get the nutrition without the calories or the added weight that meals, can have. Stay Calm and Juice on. Then after your reboot or juice fast is over, be sure to relearn how to eat, so we don't return to the weight we are fleeing! :-)
  • Favorite Juice? Purple Kale and Fuji apples!
  • Food temptation? Anything... seriously. I love food. But I only have one life and one body!

So, is there no limit to how many days you can juice? I'm on day 7 of my first reboot, feeling good.

I am currently researching and preparing to start juicing. I came across your information regarding juicing and hypoglycemia and found your response really helpful. Would you suggest trying the 10 day for a newbie or a different plan?

Day 3 was a rough day. I get dizzy if I don't drink enough coconut juice. It had electrolytes. How are you doing now? I am done Within Day 9. I feel I can make it to 15 to finish my reboot. If that works, I will do it again in two weeks after juicing for breakfast each day.

  • Johnathan

I never did the coconut juice / water. I think I tried it but never "drank" it as a vital part of my juicing. When I looked into electrolytes I discovered that they are naturally occurring in vegetables and fruits so I figured I was good to go, since I was already consuming as much as so was via my juices.

How is your juice fast going? I personally love how nutrition plays such s vital role and getting whole nutrition is huge!

were you really dizzy the first week or 2?

  • Johnathan

Dayna, looks like I need to check for new notifications and responses daily. With all the new updates to this site, something happened and my notices were turned off.

I wasn't really dizzy the first week or two. But, I did have some dizzy spells in there. I think they were most prevalent when my protein levels were down so I started adding more kale, spinach and other items with protein. Also, sweet potatoes / yams. As they have something in them that rocks and gave me all kinds of energy that sustained me for hours!

How are you doing? How is your juice fast going? Are you still juicing?

wow! I was just reading the boards and saw your story...that's freaking amazing. Particularly since you didn't really have a plan except just juice. I look.forward to reading your blog. I'm on day 6 and amazed that I've made it this far. I don't want to stop until I'm where I want to be. Congratulations! Ali

I was the same way and still am, I don't want to stop until I get to where I want to be. Even then though, I don't want to stop being wiser, smarter and conscious of what I consume. I LOVE flavors and foods, yes. I also love being alive and healthy!

When Phil Staples said "Yes" when he was asked if he felt full. I turned to my wife and said, if that man can feel full, this FAT man can too! That was 70+ pounds ago, on January 8th, 2013! On January 12th, I weighed 252 pounds and have been juicing ever since! It has now been 100+ days! I weighed 181 on April 14th, 2013!

I do NOT do the mean green... I just can't. I tried. And I died! Sorry Joe (if you see this). I just couldn't. I do like variety and flavor though and I love how much energy I have now! I just selected other ingredients (highly nutritious ones) to juice. I started light... and took small steps.

Joe and Phil saved me... the documentary turned my life around!

I believe that everyone should juice. Maybe not go 100% like I did, for as long as I did. Even 1 or 2 juices a day is better than none.

Anyone doing a reboot can do it. The first 3 to 4 days may be horrid! However, you can get by... oranges and sweet potatoes can provide substance and can sustain you for long hours while adding parsley provides energy.

And my little tip... in 100+ days of juicing, I have not ever juiced a "green apple" with any of the juices that I came up with.

    For two reasons:
    1. Green = tart. I'm looking to take the bite off. I used Fuji apples.
    2. Most stores charge more for Granny Smiths. Why pay $1.50+ a pound when Fujis are $0.88 to $1.25 (depending on your location).

I have signed up to be notified when people reply. I'd love to motivate anyone or give my opinion / share my experiences with you or anyone at all.

Joe and Phil saved me and motivated me. I hope that others can get their life back too! I'm fitter, healthier and happier... in less than 3 months! And my wife and kids love having "Daddy" back!

I am happy to share any of the recipes I made too. Also... my wife got a little nervous. She sent me to the Doctor to do some blood work. All the results came back stellar! Proteins, good and bad cholesterol, nutrients, vitamins, etc... the Doctor said that I am healthier than any of the patients he sees, besides I'm still technically "obese" on the BMI scale. I'm down 70 pounds... I'm active again! I'll get below the 24 BMI soon enough! Dropping from 34 or 36... whatever I was at, to 26 (currently), is amazing! Doing so in 3 months (now almost 4) is awesome! <-- If I do say so myself!

Join me... and I'll do all I can to help encourage you and myself! I'm still juicing and don't plan on stopping! This is me (the bottom link is the same photo, on my personal FB page... with tons of comments. The top one I put on a new page as I've been asked for my story, so I figure the top one could do so without showing all the photos of my lil' ones to the world):

If you are doing a 7 day, a 10, a 14, a 30, a 60, 90 or longer... making a lifestyle of this. Feel free to ask questions. I've been there. I've done it... I'm still doing it! And I'm energized and am loving it!

Thanks to Joe and Phil! I love being in photos again! I no longer wear huge outfits. I can move! I can sit without knees popping! I'm getting a fun life... a life of my own, that I can freely share with my wife and kids!

Thank you Joe, Phil and Breville! <-- no, I'm not being paid. I just am giving credit where it is due!

I'm super excited to be healthy again! And to have lost all this weight! I'm no doctor, but I feel that anyone can do this! Day 3-5 are the worst for most people. Day 3 was my worst day.... but, stick to it. And know that you're body is just having withdrawals and that you can and will get over it. As YOU are strong! YOU are the only one who can do this for your body.... and in a few days the energy you feel will be a huge reward! I am floored by what I can do now, compared to just 4 short months ago!

Let's all motivate each other! And lets all stay healthy!

  • Breville 850-Watt vs 1,000-Watt

Are you still considering one or do you already have one?

Either way, this post has content in it that is most likely valuable for all. Including a link to my "washing produce" post.

Which do you use? If you own the 1000 watt, please share your experiences with us. Additionally, if you own the 850-watt; are you happy with it? I know cleaning can be difficult, I added a link below to my "tips" page on the blog. Hopefully that will help.

I personally lost 71 pounds in 14 weeks using my trusty Breville JE98XL Juice Fountain Plus 850-Watt to extract the juice with. Are you still deciding which Breville juicer to get? I blogged about some benefits of the 850-watt. Obviously the 1,000-watt has more power. Lately I've had several questions or complaints about the 1,000-watt model. I believe that the tips I include below can work for the 1,000 model if you are having difficulties getting it to work with the kale and other leafy greens, the tip in the photo on my blog is something to consider.

    Some of those include:
"I have the Breville Juice Fountain Elite. My juicer seems to have a really hard time juicing kale and I feel like I get very little juice from it."

"I also have a Breville 800JEXL Juice Fountain Elite 1000-Watt Juice Extractor, and encountered the same problem with leafy-green vegetables such as kale, spinach, and parsley. The spinning blades are just too powerful for leaves that are by themselves. Instead of extracting the juice, the blade just rips it apart and throws it into the refuse bin at a high rate of speed. I tried making a "sandwich" by wrapping kale leaves around apple slices and then packing the chute full before tamping down, and I got a little better yield but it still seems like there is a lot of "green" (ie money) going into the trash."

    Other people love it.
Regarding volume, I am getting plenty so far using the recipes listed in the 5 day plan.

Since a juice is basically liquid gold or at least, liquid cash. Getting the most out of your juicer and the your time is ideal for most people. Most of us don't have the luxury of going away and doing our #reboot alone with no one around demanding our time. As a stay-at-home-dad, "time" is a valuable commodity.

I compared the Breville to the Omega line: If you have kids at home or are in high demand with work or other things; this may be beneficial to consider:

Here are some tips from my experience and juicing that will hopefully help you maximize the volume of kale juice and other items with your Breville.:

What is your experience? Do you have any tips or suggestions on either of these, or any Breville Juicer?

Dropping a jar of juice, is costly. Especially when the juice had all of this in it:
    Protein 33.47 grams | Total Fat 6.60 g | Calories 385
Calcium 1303mg <-- More than 4 eight ounce glasses of milk

TIP: Don't do it or you can have a mess like this:

Make a lot. Put the extra in the fridge with a lid on it (I use mason jars, water bottles or anything else that has a lid that closes tight. It WILL be okay for 24 hours or less as you consume it. This will save your sanity and make your juicing easier!

I keep hearing about a "normal serving" of juice and that people feel hungry. I also hear about people making several juices a day and having to clean their juicer multiple times is a bit daunting.

I was the same way when I started on Jan 12th, 2013. When I got hungry, I made another juice. When I first started I was making 3 to 7 juices a day... each time I got hungry.

Now, 100+ days into it. I make 1 or 2 juices, between 40 to 70 ounces each. Drinking about 30 ounces for breakfast and then I put the rest in the fridge. I go back to the fridge whenever I am feeling hungry and take a drink. It helps get rid of the hunger feeling and I feel full and satisfied throughout the day.

If you are having problems with fine (or small) items like blueberries, kale, spinach getting tossed into the remnant catcher, use a pepper to hold them in. I blogged about it on my personal blog.

Is your reboot over or just starting? Do you feel you failed or that you were successful? When it comes down to it, even a single juice is better than never juicing at all. We all have some form of victory under our belts! Even if this is day 1 for you. You are here. Celebrate! Typically the first 3 to 5 days are the worst. Generally the 8 to 10 day window is glorious as that is when the surge of energy hits. After day 10, the real battle begins. - The mental battle: How long can I really go without chewing? How long can I really do this for? The questions, the doubting (from yourself and others), the curiosity all starts to set in. - This is normal. Totally normal. And you are here. Here with me and everyone else. I did my juice nearly alone. You don't need to be alone. Gain support, motivation, encouragement and inspiration from this group! This group is focused on what happens afterwards or what happens if you just can't stomach a juice but still want nutrition and to be healthy? I look at things a bit differently than most. Juicing has given me my life back. My number one focus is getting in nutrition and improving overall health. Calories are important to fuel our bodies, yes. However, empty calories provide no nutrition. I want to fuel my body with highly nutritious calories. This is not a trend or a diet for me, this is my new lifestyle. Without it, I'd still be way fat. Who am I? I am Johnathan and rebootwithjoe featured the pounds I eliminated in one of their success stories. Use the links on the group wall below to connect!
