Is there anyone else out there who has PCOS or is insulin resistant and has been juice fasting? If so I'd really like to hear from you. I have been juice fasting (100%) for 40 days and have lost 5.6kg (12.32 lbs). Having PCOS makes weightloss a real challenge and so I didn't really worry too much about my weight when I started this and focussed more on health, however, at this point I feel like there is a significant difference in my weight loss and that of others and I wonder if there is anything I could be doing differently.

If any of the support team are reading this I sent an email to you guys about this 14 days ago and still haven't had a reply. I know that the site is being changed and that must have slowed things down but I really would appreciate some help and advise.

    Cheers

  • Suggestions & Q's re blog and member features

Hi, just wondering if it is possible to add a subscription option to the blog, especially to comments on threads we comment on. I made a comment on a post but can't remember what post it was and couldn't tick a box to say I wanted notification of any follow ups. This feature is common on blogs so I'm hoping someone iin the support team might read this and get this function added.

And while I'm on the subject of suggestions, before I make any more, is this forum now considered complete or are the member features still being added? We used to have a section where we could create our own groups but they have gone and the 'group rebooters' section on the forum isn't easy to navigate. It was great when we could sign up to groups and then had a 'my groups' tab that we could just click on and go straight to the groups we were interested in. Will this be coming back?

    Hi Guys,

I notice a lot of people are asking questions here on the forum that used to be answered by Joe in short video's in the old FAQ section. If you go to youtube and type 'Reboot FAQ' in the search you will hit them all in one spot.
Here are a few that I found useful:

  • Get some better sticky's!

    Hi Reboot People,

You know, I know you guys are working hard at making this forum awesome, but there are a few simple things that you could do to make it a little better while you are doing it and that would be to get some better sticky posts.

I hate to winge, (ok, I kinda like it lol) but seriously, fave fruits and veggies??? I posted there once just to be supportive, but its not like I'd subscribe or go back there to see what anyone else posts.
We need sticky's that are useful, for example, twice I have posted about the FAQ's on Youtube, but it just moves down the list of posts to get lost while people are constantly asking questions for which the answers could easily be found if the FAQ post was a sticky.

Someone started a thread about who is blogging, again, it will get lost in the threads, but would make a good sticky.

How about a suggestion box sticky? or category? Most forums are layed out across the page, with the topics listed from the top down, and under each topic it says what that part of the forum is for...for example....

    Group Reboots
A place to connect with other people with similar health problems

    Suggestion Box
A place to add suggestions that you think would make this site better, please don't post questions here, this is for suggestions only, please direct questions to info@blahblah or on the Free for All Section

    Ask the Nutritionist
Ask Dr so and so specific.......

Do you know what I'm getting at?

Anyway, a good place to start would be better sticky's.....just sayin'

    Hi everyone,
As I wander around the forum i keep finding people asking the same questions over and over. Joe has a series of short video's answering common questions but they aren't on the site anymore, you can find them on youtube, but i thought I would make it easier by putting them all on one page on my blog.

    http://planetsarah.com/faq/

PLEASE take the time to scroll through them.

There are other questions for which there are no vids from Joe, I will answer them as soon as I get a chance.

    Sticky perhaps?

As many of you have probably noticed, unlike most forums this one doesn't have a set of forum rules and is not moderated by any admin staff. So after a recent clash with another member I thought it might be a good idea to discuss etiquette.

99.9% of these threads are all filled with positive and supportive people. Unfortunately though there are times when negativity creeps in and as we don't have the benefit of private messaging we need to say things publicly. In these cases please don't make personal attacks as to character, appearance, legitimacy of reasons for being here etc.

Please be mindful that this is a public forum. Group reboots are great, they are a way to connect with people in similar situations, locations, age groups, have the same philosophies or are dealing with the same illnesses. However, please don't exclude people from participating in a thread. There is no private function on here and it is rude to tell anyone that they are not welcome on a thread. Remember, that whilst someone may not fit with the description of a group, they may still have valid comments to make and may benefit from the comments of others.

If anyone else has any concerns about the way members should conduct themselves please add it here. I am sure at some point the Reboot team will organise proper moderation and establish formal rules of conduct.

My apologies to any who have felt any of my own recent comments uncalled for or inappropriate.

  • GMO veggies or just a 'new variety'

Started by esjayeff, Last reply by esjayeff on 2012-07-04 22:57:22

I have been suggesting purple carrots as an alternative to beets as part of the eat the rainbow concept. This also follows the reboot tips to exchange veggies for others of the same colour if you don't like or can't get the ones in the recipe...but now I'm thinking, all these weird and wonderful veggies that seem to be on offer here in Australia, are they perfectly fine new varieties simply created by crossing one type of veggie with another or are they considered GMO and therefore naughty veggies? I think of GMO foods as the ones they modify to make sweeter, last longer, grow faster etc, but are these humble new colourful varieties in the same bag?

Here in Oz we have purple everything, carrots, cauliflower, kale, cabbage, capsicum. We have yellow carrots and white carrots. Green cauliflower, orange cauliflower...I love it, but should I?

Really hope I get an answer on this one, its plaguing me now.

  • What exactly makes a 'green' juice

Started by esjayeff, Last reply by vilkal on 2012-07-09 21:42:17

When I think of the term 'green' juice as used in reboot terminology I think of a juice that is made primarily of green coloured produce. However, I notice that other members refer to a green juice as green based on its colour. So for example most coloured veggies with kale added turn green. Does this then make it one of the green juices that Joe recommends we get as many of as possible just because of its colour?

    Hi Stacy,
On the program I did before the reboot we used a lot of almond milk and the nutritionists told us that it didn't contain enough calcium to warrant replacing dairy, in fact she may have even said it didn't contain calcium, and so I passed this info onto another lady on another thread and can't for the life if me remember which thread. It worries me that I might have given her the wrong info as today I read an article in which it stated that Almond Milk is an excellent source of calcium. I'm confused. Can you shed some light please?
    Cheers :)

  • Oxalates and Calcium

    Hi Claire and Stacey :)

I recently interacted online with an experienced juicer (10 years) who made an alarming claim regarding the formation of gall stones. She stated that high oxalate plants such as beets shouldn't be juiced with high calcium plants such as broccoli as the oxalates bind with the calcium to form calcium oxalate which then goes on to form stones. Her claim has completely challenged me so I thought I'd see if you could shed some light on it.

I personally cannot see how one can separate plants with calcium from plants with oxalate, as both substances co-exist in the same plants. Her response to this was that it is about balance. This really doesn't make sense to me, and I cant find anything to support what she is saying, but she is very insistent.

It also got me to thinking about the whole calcium oxalate thing....Calcium oxalate is poisonous and shouldn't be ingested right? So, when oxalate combines to calcium, does this then create "calcium oxalate" or is it, to put simply, just an oxalate molecule stuck to a calcium molecule?

Hope you can help me to understand this issue better.

    Cheers, Sarah.

    Hi everyone and anyone,

I guess this is a sort of spin off of the Misfits thread which has been the fastest moving most popular group thread on the forum so far. However, I think that when new people come onto a forum they can be put off by trying to catch up on a thread with well over 1000 posts. So, seeing as I am about to start my second reboot any day now I thought I would start a new group with the same ethos as the original misfit group, that EVERYONE is welcome, particularly if you have been made to feel that you don't fit in on another thread.

So with the misfit's in mind here is how this thread works...

It doesn't matter if you're a seasoned juicer or a total newbie, whether you are juicing and eating or juicing alone. If you prefer to have 'smoothies' instead of juices that's cool as I'm not here to set the rules. My only criteria for participating in this group is that you're basically nice :) Open minded and non judgemental is also good. Oddballs, misfits, kookie characters and total nutjobs are highly regarded, but if you feel you are more the conventional type then you should still join so that we misfits can have a good influence on you :)

Before we get into the nitty gritty of juicing I'l start with some forum stuff. It's a well known fact that this forum software ain't the greatest, we can't private message each other, and we cant reply to individual posts. If this turns out to be slow moving thread then subscribing to it will be fine as you will get an email notification each time a new post goes up. However, if this one turns out as popular as the misfits thread then you would be wise not to subscribe but to favourite it instead. (Click on 'favourite' in the purple bar). Next you will wonder, well, now that I have favourited or subscribed to it how can I get back to it??? To do this each time you log on go straight to the 'edit profile' link in the top right corner of the website. Once in your profile page click on your name above your profile photo. This will take you to a page that lists all the pages you have subscribed to or favourited or started. If at any time you want to get back to your favourites page you can go through the same procedure, OR, click on your profile picture in any post that you have made. Last but not least, if you would like to see any new features added to the forum PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE take the time to email Chris at help at jointhereboot.com and tell him. The policy is that they will change something if enough people ask for it.

Few more helpful things, or at least what I hope will be helpful things. As you may have noticed by my signature line, I am a blogger. It would be worth popping over to my blog and going straight to the FAQ page where there are many short video's by Joe Cross answering common questions. The most common one I get is "where can I find the info on how to do a 60 day fast like Joe and Phil?" So I have written a blog post about this which might clear it up: http://planetsarah.com/2012/07/12/the-60-day-plan-how-is-it-done/

Alrighty then....so right now I am in prep phase. This means that for the next few days I am eating plant based foods and juicing. Seeing as I have been doing this juicing thing for a while I'm not expecting any major detox symptoms, but who knows, one way to find out huh.

Now I could just prattle on for ages, but there will be plenty of time for that. So if anyone wants to join me on my reboot journey I will appreciate the company AND the support.

I've been trying to get back to old thread but having a bit of trouble, so hopefully a misfit or two will spot this new thread and get this message.

A few of us old misfits have got together via a facebook group page. It's a great way to stay in touch with the people we connected with on the old group thread and see what everyoone is up to now.

    So, here's the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/RebootMisfitsReunion/

We've found that if you join via a cell phone app that the add new member feature doesn't work at my end, so you must join via a an actual computer.

So far we have me, Al and Prishna...we've been thinking up old names and here are a few that came to mind who we'd love to hear from...

Arte, KimKong, Melodie, Horselover, Mewd, BDMalone, Monica, Getset....and so many more.

Hope to catch up with you all soon :)
