  • About: After spending most of my adult life as a tired, overweight and out-of-shape workaholic and feeling that my life had passed me by a long time ago, I saw a remarkable documentary on Netflix one evening and my outlook on life suddenly changed. I had heard about juice fasting before but never gave it much thought, but the way it was presented in this film was so intensely personal and uplifting that I had to try it for myself. That was 160 pounds ago and I have never felt better. Nothing about this pathway is easy. Let's face it - juicing can be a real pain, but the benefits still outweigh the burdens and when a reboot has been completed there is such a feeling of accomplishment.
  • Why I've Joined Reboot with Joe: I am here to just be a part of this and to help anyone that I can. People all over the world are taking control of their health as well as their weight and regaining their power, and I want to be a friend and a mentor to anyone who needs help.

  • Warning-Cyclosporidia contamination in produce

Just read an online news article about an outbreak of cyclospora infections in the midwest, and the illness was probably contracted from produce that was grown in tropical or sub-tropical regions.

Please everyone, WASH your produce before eating it or making a juice from it, even if it is organic.

What specific juices do you recommend to help alleviate high blood pressure? I have heard that watermelon juice (including the rind as well as the sweet red fruit) has arginine and can reduce BP, but I haven't noticed any effect. I did try celery juice in my Mean Green last week and my lower number went down about 9 points, so I'll keep drinking celery for sure. Are there any others that may be of help as well?

Does anyone know of any specific juice combinations that are especially helpful in reducing blood pressure? I have had moderate luck with a carrot/beet/spinach juice cocktail, but I would like to know if anyone else has found anything that works especially well?

First day of my 60-day reboot and so far, so good. Had a green juice first thing this morning (kale, cucumber, celery, lemon, granny-smith apple and some collard greens) and followed it half an hour later with a cleansing cocktail (beet, apple, ginger and carrot). In spite of my best efforts, I did feel lethargic and depressed most of the day and I'd love the luxury of lying in bed all day like Joe did in the movie. Every day completed is one day closer to my goal though, and I'm going to see this through to the end.

Funny thing, I have watched the film at least a dozen times, but it wasn't until the tenth viewing that I realized Dr. Fuhrman practiced medicine in Flemington, New Jersey when the movie was made in 2007. I've lived nearby for about ten years now and had no idea a documentary was being filmed so close to home. I don't know if Fuhrman is still there, but I'll look him up when the fast is over and tell him how much influence he's had in my life.

Not keeping score of weight lost this time. I'm going to juice fast for 60 days and not weigh myself until after the fast has been completed. If I get caught up in the metrics I'll lose sight of the big picture. Beginning weight though is 352 pounds and my bodyfat percentage is 32% (which translates to 112 pounds of fat that I'm carrying around with me). Blood pressure remains dangerously high but I'm hoping this will also do the trick.

  • "Move the Dial" with Modified Juicing

This is for people who have finished a reboot or who want to change their eating habits with modified juicing. The Group Picture is of a glass mug of healthy hot garlic soup with sprigs of parsley. I've just finished a 10 day juice reboot and am now eating lots of salads and hot soup. My challenge is night-time grazing. I'm cultivating a better eating habit by: 1. Drinking at least one healthy veggie/fruit juice a day 2. Eating a salad a day 3. Eating more veggies than meat or grain 4. Eating no later than 8:30 p.m. 6 days a week (I work late hours) 4. intermittent fasting one day a week (only veggie juice) 5. Every 6 - 8 weeks I want to do a 3 day juice cleanse This list isn't meant to dictate the same for everyone. How are you "moving your dial" by cultivating your own better eating habits?
