  • About: Network engineer sitting at a desk most of the day. Have been active for periods of time with martial arts, skiing, etc. but I have never really been at or maintained a weight I am comfortable with or that was healthy. The closest I came was when doing martial arts. Felt great, was happy with how I looked and figured it would only get better, and had more confidence then I had ever had in my life, then work interrupted that. I was on a great track. I should have never let that happen. I am 6'1" and would like to be around 200 to 220 but I can't even remember when I last saw that on the scale.
  • Why I've Joined Reboot with Joe: I have ballooned out after the 2013 x-mas and new year to like 320lbs and my knees have started to hurt.I was just under 300lbs about 3 weeks ago. Hope to lose enough weight to feel comfortable, knees to stop hurting, and feel motivated and have enough energy to exercise more and maybe even go back to MA. I feel I am addicted to certain foods. My cravings do not lead to eating to satisfaction, they lead to gorging. Pizza for instance.....when I really want pizza, it is not a couple slices it is all the pizza. More and more I find that expanding into chips, ice cream, cookies.....things I had eliminated from my diet for awhile. I will eat nonstop at night sometimes until I am way way past full. I think I need a reboot to break the cycle, the cravings, addictions, and to just examine my relationship with food by breaking it off for awhile.

This is my second day. It will be 48 hours at around 2 pm since I ate. I am not sure what today will bring. I spent a lot of time yesterday looking at whole foods and veggie recipes thinking about what I would eat when I do eat, how to make whole food pizza, what kind of cheese is healthiest. I don't think it was particularly healthy, I think it was more because I hadn't eaten. At least I wasn't thinking about Joeys pizza ( my fav around here) or lasagna, which I love my homemade lasagna. So maybe there is something good about that, but obsessing on food all day and recipes probably has more to do with either food type addiction or hunger than health. I feel pretty good really. I wasn't hungry too much after juice, and I don't think being hungry is really that hard or painful, it is the mental struggle that really hurts. Last night after my last juice I didn't feel hungry, but I did feel like I had these kind of pre-fluish like symptoms and like a little weakness. I knew it wasn't the flu because they were not exactly the same, but similar, and I chalked it up to detox. I feel pretty good this morning, not raving mad hungry like I thought I would be. In good spirits. Feeling more like I can do this than I did yesterday. I am going to dehydrate my pulp today and store it for future use as soup filler salad topper, or whatever. The Breville leaves fairly wet pulp and I just can't bring myself to toss it.

Food labels are frustrating. I am trying a new organic tea and it says it has organic apple flavor and organic caramel flavor......just what is an organic flavor? Is it apple or isn't it? Anytime I see flavor little alarms to off. It says organic at least so I suppose that is good, but I still wonder what exactly organic apple flavor is. If it is an extract say so, if it is an oil say so.......what the heck is a flavor?? Grrr. It is made by Yogi btw, in case anyone knows or has tried to find this info.

In my profile I set it for starting today, but I actually stopped eating yesterday as soon as my juicer arrived. I had been waiting for it and so didn't eat much. I juiced a little that night and was surprised how good raw apple juice tastes. The only store bought juice I have drank for the last 5 years or so has been pomegranate and on rare occasion some cider or apple. The apple juice I made was so much better, more refreshing, and tasted so naturally like apple. I am surprised at how different it tastes from even the store bought 100% apple juice. Even though the store bought always said 100%, it tastes kind of fakie in comparison. Anyway, woke up had a quart of hot water with lemon and a little ginger and just finished off an orange sunrise. I was reading about beets and now know that I should be leaving the top greens on when I juice them. Next time.So far so good. I woke up hungry, but went away after lemon water and the juice. I notice I tend to want to kind of mindlessly head to the fridge out of habit, but of course there is nothing in there except stuff to juice so it is more of a passing habitual thought/behavior.

I too am a well educated foodie, and it had me well in its grip. I'm thinking because the juice has pretty much the same caloric/carb content, there is little glycemic up and down>>little or no cravings. If I get hungry, I just get some water or another juice. If all fails I carry an couple of emergency apples. Had steak and broccoli last night and dropped another pound. (332.6 down to 309.) Love this. Come play with us. Juice On!

"well educated foodie" meaning knows all about food, because I've had it all and loved it. Been there done that and then went back to have some more.

Welcome! You're in the right place. The most amazing thing happened to me here. I drink my juice and i'm not hungry or even thinking about food after the 2nd day. Ate an apple today on the way home from work. 20lbs in 3 weeks. So far so good.

I just started Juice Fasting and Day 1 is almost complete. There were times throughout that were tough. I felt tired and an undescribeable feeling. I am feeling ok now though. Are there any other first time fasters here>
