Asher

  • About: I'm 65 yrs. young; I'm a determined individual who chooses a happy and healthy life. I am a retired IT executive. My health while better that others at my age, is definitely worse than others at my age. I take many medications to help correct several ailments plus other medication to compensate for the side effects created by those originally used for the ailing conditions. I'm considered obese, at one point last year I weight very close to 300lbs. I'm a grandparent and a father of 5 children 2 girls and 3 boys. I want to live to experience my children gifting me with their own children.
  • Why I've Joined Reboot with Joe: Last Father's day, one of my sons in Arizona (Tom) pointed me to Joe's documentary "Fat Sick and Nearly Dead". It didn't take me long to get motivated and started the program immediately once I received the ordered juicer. My starting point in weight was over 260lbs, and my consumption of medication was over the top. (Blood Pressure, Diabetes, Cholesterol, Allergy, Asthma, Arthritis, plus various medications dealing with associated side effects.) My wife and I did a 60 day reboot and I'm proud to say I stuck to the program even though I was faced with many temptations. During this reboot period my wife took pictures of me every week to look at the visual progress, we neglected to take measurements. By the end of this journey I weighed 215lbs and was able to eliminate a good 90% of my medications and the other medication that I was still taking were reduced in dosage. Unfortunately once I finished the reboot I engaged in some of the happy occasions with family members that included birthdays, Thanksgiving, Christmas etc. , needless to say I gained weight. As of last Sunday January 12th, 2014, my joie de vivre caused me an increase in weight, approximately 25lbs. I have started my second reboot program, this time for 90 days, it includes an exercise program such as walking cycling and weight lifting. My start date was January 12th, this time with the intent of losing all my excessive weight and getting back in shape, this time permanently. I enjoy juicing, interestingly enough when I was on the 60 day reboot program I was seldom hungry, when I started to eat solid foods again hunger set in, could not understand it because prior to the reboot I never did feel hungry; that in itself is more confusing to me but it is of little consequence, what is important is for me to move forward. I look forward to a healthy 90 days with positive permanent results and I will share my progress with the hope that it may motivate someone else with similar challenges and conditions.
  • Favorite Juice? All, I have an extensive palat.
  • Food temptation? Bread, pasta, pizza, cheese, late night eating any of these items

Thanks Maxene for checking in. I wish I can indicate good progress, still recovering from a bad cold and some physical injuries dues to falling on ice. I have gone in the opposite direction because of lack of activity and not sticking to my plan. I keep restarting but with little success. I will give myself this week off and restart again this Sunday. Still confined to bed, I am now back on the Benicar "blood pressure meds" which causes me severe edema, so I must shed the 15 lbs. I regained since early February. Keep checking as I will succeed. Thank you again.

Asher, I am sorry to hear about your accident. I agree, now, may not be the best time for your reboot. Stay on track with the veggies and fruit and you will be ready to roll when the time comes. Sending well wishes your way.

Thanks very much Taylor for your support. I think the time has come....., still having difficulty walking and I'm seeing a chiropractic, a better solution to pain killers.... the house is being repaired, very messy from workmen but all will be back to normal or better soon, nature has taught us that the sun always comes out tomorrow.....I regained all the weight I lost during January, but, I got back on the wagon as of yesterday. I pray that all will stay on track this time and that derailments are minimized. Thanks again Taylor

A rough past week, have a bad cold, and also fell on an icy surface and hurt myself badly. Needless to say bed was and still seems to be my best friend. My reboot somehow took a back stage. Today is 2-11-2014, and I am gearing up again slowly to get back on a reboot track. I am rather annoyed at the set back but I must only look forward, I may have lost a month but I can always tack another month on after the next 60 days. Wish me success.

Asher, I am a few days away from the 30 day mark. I feel great and have decided to wait until Feb 6th to get my final weigh in. I have not decided what my next steps will be but I do know I will continue with juices in my diet. How are things going for you?

The more I really explore Joe's internet site the more I realize his selfless persona, the amount of professionals available to all of us covering a plethora of subjects weather it is about nutritional values, experiences from others, exercise routines, etc., is very enriching. It gives me real pleasure and it is a great privilege to be exposed and have the ability to interact with everyone where there is a common theme. "BEING HEALTHY" As Joe would say..... Juice On. Thank you Joe, and Phil for making a difference in other people's lives.

HI Asher, Thanks for your kinds words early!! I have never juiced squash, I guess I will try now after reading your recipe. Also, just curious do you get lots of juice from the strawberries - I have not yet tried strawberries. Today, I did for the first time, collard greens, with apple, carrot, celery, beet, parsnip, cucumber, and sweet potato. I was nervous to taste, but it was actually quite good.

Keep it up my friend, keep it up!!

Hi Jen, it is nice to know you and thanks for your message your vote of confidence and for having the courage to try the recipe. With regard to the strawberries I was very amazed at the amount of juice they produced, in the past I used the Vitamix to create a pure with the strawberries and then mix it with the juice but obviously I didn't need to.

Hello back to you Taylor I'm doing well I shed 6lbs last week. This past weekend presented my wife and I with some big challenges. Friday night a pipe in our hot water heating system burst so needless to say it is a big challenge dealing with the damage insurance etc. but we have both stayed on track with juicing, having said that my portions have not followed the recommended daily intake. It has become a coordinating and time matter. I will adjust and regain control and get back on track. How's your world hoping this response finds you well and happy with your accomplished results
