  • About: I've been a vegan for almost 8 years now which helped me lose a lot of weight years ago and reverse a diabetes diagnosis. (My last diabetic A1C was 5.2 -- diet made that possible without meds.) I'm 63 years old, I'm married, have 2 grown stepsons, 2 step grandchildren, great friends, and have a great little rescue dog named, Maddie. I love eating out with friends and family; I take Spanish and sewing classes; and love throwing big birthday parties for friends. I'm presently retired with my husband who retired 5 years ago but I may return to work as a clinical social worker again one day.
  • Why I've Joined Reboot with Joe: I need to lose weight. I have been eating a vegan diet but french fries, even though vegan, are still not the best thing for you to eat. I've been eating 3 chocolate chips cookies from Whole Foods, and a hot chocolate every day. Also, eating lots of vegan fatty foods which is not good. I've had a few things happen these past couple of years that threw me for a loop -- all worked on me emotionally because they included losses and in some ways they felt devastating. It's not all bad as I have a very stable family life and great hubby. I've acquired some really bad habits to deal with it all -- such as sitting too much and eating chocolate.
  • Favorite Juice? Any juice with lemon
  • Food temptation? Vegan Sprinkles cupcakes -- homemade vegan chocolate cookies and creamy soy hot chocolate.

    Anna, I have a number of wonderful vegan, vegetarian, and raw food cookbooks on my bookshelf. I used to cook a lot, but since my children are all on their own now, my husband and I tend to go out more. I really need to revisit some of these books so that I can become inspired again. Somewhere on the reboot board, I remember you mentioning that you would like to eat more raw foods. I wanted to share a couple of my favorite books for raw "cooking". Not only are the recipes reboot friendly and mostly vegan, but the books are absolutely gorgeous! Both are by Judita Wignall. You may already have them, but if not, I think you would enjoy them. Thanks for all your support and encouragement on this reboot journey. It's really appreciated.

    Hi Donna,

    Thank you for mentioning these 2 books. I've heard of Judita Wignall. I will try to find them when I go to Barnes and Noble. I know what you mean about going out to eat. My husband is not a vegan and even though I get a lot of his food at the Whole Foods hot bar, we also go out to restaurants a lot. I don't like to cook and it's easier to go pick something up. I can completely relate. Thanks so much!

    Did a Lenten fast and although I started the Monday after Lent started, because of a previous commitment, I did 38 days. I lost 16 pounds and got down to 107 pounds. It's been 2 weeks since I've gotten off the fast and I've not gained any weight - I'm actually down to 106. Very happy!

    Fat Tuesday is right around the corner and I am going to give up food and go juice only this year. It would be great if others wanted to do it as well. Even though this fast is rooted in Catholic traditions you don't have to be Catholic or a Christian to benefit from the effects of juicing for over 40 days. Ash Wednesday is February 18th and according to Google goes until April 2 which is Holy Thursday but i have always waited to end my fast on Easter. Whichever day you choose is your call. Lets all team up and make this our last fat Tuesday of the year!!

    Hello, My name is Cristina, I'm originally from Philippines but now I'm living in Stockholm creating this group hoping to get some support from you guys who are into juicing..and into losing weight..I'm myself struggle a lot when it comes to weight. I came from a culture who eat rice into breakfast lunch and dinner and even to no wonder we put more weight!!! Since I was 7 I have a problem with my hurts when I feel the cold rainy days..some says its genetic that I have a rheumatoid arthritis something like that..I didn't really went to doctor since in Philippines it cost a lot to go to doctor so im just self medicating buying some anti inflammatory meds. I know it's wrong but it works and help me ease the pain.. Anyway...lets make the story short. When I got here in Sweden. They have good medical benefits. So I started to see a doctor and investigate what is really causing the pain in my knee..we have done a lot of test..and it shows I don't have rheumatoid arthritis. For a year and half my doctor didn't give up on me and keep investigating why I have pain,what is the cause of pain..everything..and for those times we still could not figure out why\what all these question. To the point I gave up to myself to find all those answer scientifically.. Then I thought that maybe I weighted to much that my knee could not handle I will try juicing to lose weight. And hoping..maybe with the magic of this juicing I will feel no pain one of this days.. So guys join me in my juicing..need your support.
