The plateau has been breached. Woo Hoo. I am now down 3.5 kilos (7.7 pounds). And that is 35% of what I want to lose - over a third of the way there.

I have a feeling that the best juices are the green ones. Always drop weight when I drink mainly green - mean green and green lemonade in particular. Wondering if anyone else finds (thinks, believes, considers) that there are some juices and therefore veges and fruits which are better to drink than others.

Joe's 101 Recipe book has "tags" for recipes by "ailment" including "weight loss/obesity" -- for my second fast, I'm focusing on those. ;) (and yep, Mean Grean and Green Lemonade are both listed as great for weight loss efforts).

    Is anyone excercising??

  • cgaffney2520

I am. I started doing cardio and some weight training, but now I am starting to train for my first 5k race. I feel that the excercise really helps the weight just fall off.

I usually do, and love to run, but am trying to take it easy right now. It does make me feel so much better and know it makes a big difference when you are trying to lose weight. Considering I am at the beginning, I just don't want to speed my metabolism up too much and set myself up to get too hungry and come home starving. Depending on your situation, I would say do it if you can and feel you are ready. I'm not sure where you live, but I am on the east coast and it's been brutal. If I lived somewhere warmer, I would definitely start by going for a nice walk outside. In fact, I may actually go to the gym and just get on the treadmill with my ipod and walk for 45 minutes today.

i just started exercising yesterday (day 3 for me) and i'm just starting out slow with some walking on a treadmill for 30 mins. they say not to over exert yourself the first few days

  • RaenbowRae

Yes. I try to go to the gym 3-4 days a week and do only cardio. Some days I walk slower (3.5 speed) some days I run and walk. I try to do at least 40-45 mins at the pace I feel comfortable doing that day.

    Hi Everyone,

Todays is my first day of 15 day plan, although I've been slowly prepping myself over the last few days. My biggest challenge is night - I am used to eating one meal a day (crap) and coming home from a busy day and unwinding and looking forward to eating whatever I wanted. That was my way of rationalizing eating once a day. I also have a huge sweet tooth and love eating sugar at night. My biggest challenge is going to be dealing with those two things. Can anyone identify and offer advice as to how you dealt with this? I know the Mean Green is primarily greens, can I add more apples or something else sweet? Please note I am doing this to change my eating habits and adapt to a healthier lifestyle. I don't need to lose weight, but was getting sick all the time and after recently having the flu for a week, being terribly moody, depressed and lethargic, I knew it was time to change. Thanks and good luck to all. I am truly inspired by all of your perserverence, strength and determination. Happy Juicing :)

Especially since you aren't looking for weight loss I would say plan a particularly fruity juice in the evening to satisfy your sweet tooth. Another suggestion, if you're ok with a little fruit would be to freeze bananas and then blend them in a blender or food processor and make banana "ice cream" it's delicious! ( I prefer to use my food processor for this task) You can add a few strawberries to make it "Strawberry ice cream" or Raw coco powder for chocolate. Hope this helps!

some of the purple juices are quite sweet. Try the ones with blueberries in particular.

Thanks! Last night was a little rough but I had some tea and made a smoothie like drink with greek yougert and strawberries and 1 banana. I threw in some other stuff I had in the fridge, like cocount water, spinach, avacado and some protein powder my boyfriend has. It was a good combo and satisfied me.I'd say I'm about 75% there, this week has been great for prepping me. I really need to ease into it - I couldn't do it if I just jumped right into it. I think the slowly going from more fruit to more veggies will help with the sugar. I used to eat no sugar at all, so know once I get over the initial first two weeks I won't even crave it anymore. During the day I'm ok. I'm so busy with work which I am very grateful for, that I really don't have time to think about it. I have been having the Mean Green Juice twice a day, drinking tons of water, tea and then limiting the really sweeter one when I struggle to night (for now). Both of the suggestions you have offered are great, and will definitely try them as well.

Sweet potatoes are great too. I juiced one called "Carrot Cake" last night that was really good, and I thought very sweet. It's 6 large carrots, 1 1/2 sweet potatoes, 2 red apples, and a dash of cinnamon added to the juice. Delish. And sweet potatoes help give me a "full" feeling. Hope that helps!

  • Evansangel

@ vixend - thanks, that sounds awesome and I like it because it's stuff I have in the house. When it's 10 pm, and I've been up since 6 am, I'm exhausted. It's easy for me to grab that stuff and throw it in a juicer (when the other option that I'd like to choose is skittles and eat the whole bag).

you should look into buying joe's 101 recipes there are a lot of recipes that have more fruit in them. There aren't just recipes for a reboot there are recipes for more fruitier juices since you aren't looking to lose weight

Ok, not sure how to put this out there, so I'm just gonna. I am on day 5 and I feel pretty good! However, before I started this I had a lot of people say the first three days would be tough becuase of the cleansing part (if you catch my drift) so I made sure those days were a weekend and not at work. The cleanse hasn't really happened yet. Am I doing something wrong? I have a red drink for breakfast, mean green for lunch, snack and dinner, and an orange drink for dessert along with water during the day and my hot drink at morning and night. I have had to incorporate carrot sticks throughout the day (not too many) but I can't imagine that screwing up the process. Am I off the mark here?

  • First Things First

Great job getting to day 5! I have to say that I "cleansed" pretty well, but just once a day at the normal time. Nothing earth-shattering. In my opinion (lol), if you're feeling good and losing weight, just enjoy the journey! By the way, for me it was day six that I really noticed my energy spike. I'm on day 9, and my skin is beginning to look better, too. Cool, huh? What a great way to live : )

I agree... I wouldn't worry too much. People can be very different in this area, plus your body is adjusting. Give it some time and everything will work itself out! hehe

agree with everyone else - we all react differently. If you are feeling well then just go with it.

wellllll.... lol don't worry this is my third time trying to reboot (this time i'm sticking with it) but i never really have that time when people say they can't get off the toilet. i actually get constipated. This time around i'm on day 4 now and i still haven't "cleansed". your not putting solids into your body anymore so why would solids come out? i found that when you drink a couple glasses of hot water with lemon in the morning sometimes u'll get a solid :) hope that helps!

Hi everyone..just a quick check-in. Still too much snow here and can't wait for Spring to arrive with some sun! A little over a month (which included a 4 day trip to Vegas with no juice and sensible eating) and 17lbs down by just juicing breakfast and lunch. My birthday is in about a month and my goal is to be down another 10lbs. I think that's a doable goal with the regimen I'm on. I feel fantastic and have been trying some beets in my juice. I'm not a huge fan, but I can't say it's horrible either. Love that my clothes are all getting baggy and people are acknowledging my weight loss. Feels great! I still continue to drink my 1 cup of coffee a day too....I just couldn't give it up - my only real vice. I've cut back on my 'adult beverages' and so many other favorite foods for this so I don't think it's too bad (at least I keep telling myself that..haha). Sounds like everyone is doing well as expected. You newbies just keep trudging along through the headaches and hunger pains. Trust me...it's worth it! Good luck everyone and keep on juicing!

    Good morning everyone,

I hope you all had a great weekend. I, unfortunately suffered an awful migraine yesterday :( and I have to admit I was a little bit discouraged from juicing. But I weighed myself this morning and so far, I've lost 14 lbs and I started on Feb. 5. That's about a pound a day! That really motivates me to keep going. I'm hoping that the weight loss will lessen the frequency of my migraines, since I don't remember having them when I was younger and a "normal" weight. I hope that if any of you get discouraged for any reason, you share it here, and don't give up! Week 2 can be a slow one for weight loss as well, but keep going. After the hump, it's downhill for a while. =) Good luck friends!

Sorry to hear about the migraine. A colleague at work gets them and hers are triggered by different foods. She has undergone an elimination diet to work out what foods trigger them. Might be worth thinking about trying.

Hello friends. Day 4 going pretty smoothly. Felt a little nauseous earlier and still feeling tired sometimes, but I also don't feel like I've been sleeping as well ( could be lots of reasons for that). I'm in a bit of an interesting situation and just thought I'd throw it out there and see what people have to say. Juicing and Dating!... haha.. Seems like a horrible combination. I have contemplated just holding off on the whole dating thing until I'm done, but somehow that just doesn't seem like as much fun! "Dating" always seems to revolve around food you know.. so I have decided that I can just have salad or other veggies and a small amt of fish.. or I don't know. Anyway did it the other night and it worked out pretty well. Just don't want to get discouraged with slower wt loss or really mess up cause I don't want to be seen as a difficult eater. Lol.. Anyway, think I probably have it under control, but would love to hear your thoughts!

I think you have to what is right for you! You shouldn't have to give up a part of your life to get yourself healthy but I understand the fear of distraction. Suggest other things to do on a date for a while (if you can). It took me a month to plan and organize my juice and the night before I started, we had a major family emergency. My first instict was to postpone and take care of everyone and take care of myself later. I realized, that is what I always do and that is why I am where I am. I started the juice, I kinda made everyone work around me and you know what? They lived and so did I. I am on day four, I feel good and I feel really good about choosing myself for once. Don't let anything get in your way of your goal or what you want.

Thanks Lisa... I don't intend to get "off track", but we never do right? I'm really trying to be true to myself and live from my essence. I know that by doing so I will also attract the perfect person for me! Living the life I want rather than the one I've created will align everything. I want to attract things into my life.. esp men that are going to support the life I want to live, the person I want to be, and ultimately who I am.. my essence. So I'm working on being that very person and approaching my life that way, rather than getting bogged down in what I have manifested to this point. We are all very good at ignoring and neglecting ourselves... I understand! Day 5 and I'm down 4 lbs! Woot!

my partner and I have had a couple of dinners. I don't drink alcohol (sparkling water instead) and basically go for whatever has the most veges in it. I am still losing weight and feeling great so will keep doing just that. I refuse to live as a hermit.

My suggestion for the dating would be to try and limit your "food dates" to once a week - maybe a Saturday night? Then you could look forward to having lean protein and a salad or veggie. I don't think you will seem difficult to a guy at all. In fact, I think most guys would respect that you are taking care of yourself and trying to eat healthy. I'm not sure where you are with dating, are you dating one person? Going on multiple dates and at the getting to know you stage? Depending on the situation, I think meeting for coffee (where you could have tea) is best. You don't want to be going to dinner with guys you may not stand anyway! If there is someone you have begun to see more regularly, you certainly don't have to disclose everything, but be honest about who you are and where you are. My experience has been that honesty is always the best policy. Especially with dating. You are who you are and you need to embrace that - any guy you would potentially like to be in a relationship will like you no matter what. Just be you and you can't go wrong. Also don't feel obligated to put yourself in situations you aren't comfortable, it's not worth it.

good for you with the dating.. I have pretty much shut my self off socially for my 25 days of juicing. I just can not afford to slow down my process so I am scared to eat real food

Plateau - my first. Sigh. All was going well and the last few days no weight loss. Still am feeling well, sleeping better, have lower blood presure and able to focus on what needs to be done, so shouldn't complain. Just would like the scales to show more weight loss. Must find that tape measure ....

  • Essence

It always seems easier to stay on track when scale keeps changing! For other programs I've done they would recommend lemon steep tea- half a lemon and juice in hot water for 5-10 min. and lots of parsley or cilantro on a salad. I realize a salad isn't really an option and although I've never juiced with cilantro or parsley... hmm I don't think?, maybe it would be worth a shot! If you try it let me know how it goes!

  • Hallea

have juiced parsley - one of the vege combos here has parsley in it. Will give it a couple more days and up my water even more over the weekend and see what happens.

HELP! Been off-line for a few days. Had surgery on Friday. Had my gallbladder removed. Not doing so good. Havent had a juice since Thursday and need desperately to get back to it but I don't know where to start. Sorry for the gross details but having a lot of gas, cramps and diarehea. Anyone have any ideas or just a bit of support would help so much! Glad we have this site!!!

  • olivia

all of the gas and problems might be from your surgery . the doctor literally pumps your abdomen like a balloon with air to do the surgery so just hang in there your gas should subside just try to move and not be stagnant that helps release it . try juicing fruits and veggies that wont cause more gas stay away from cabbage broccoli cauliflower stay away from oranges also because the can cause diahrea .... try tea of chamomile and hot lemon water might help also ... hope you feel better soon...

  • Essence

Krista, I agree with Oliva. Best thing to do is get moving! The more walking you do the better you will feel. Juice is easy on the digestion while everything is getting back to normal.. I'd just jump in!

  • Hallea

You have all the side effects of gall bladder removal. Doctors usually suggest a diet which slowly increases fibre post surgery, and recommend avoiding certain foods. I would think a conversation there first would be worthwhile. And when all of that settles down then get back onto juicing.

  • Essence

Major headache today, though it feels very muscle related.. I feel the juicing is waking up some of the toxins trapped in my tight shoulders and neck. I'm sure this is partially also related to stress around my search for a new job. Sometimes just sitting on the couch I can feel the tension in my neck and shoulders, so I try to relax and release it. Wish I had a bathtub!

  • Hallea

It is fascinating how our bodies react differently. One of the first things I noticed was how I was no longer waking up with really tense shoulders and neck. Probably it was sleeping better, but at least no longer tense. Often those early headaches are related to the detox - keep up with your water and it will soon pass.
