"we made too many wrong mistakes."
Yogi Berra, born in St Louis makes him a midwest guy! this quote reminds me of why i juice!
FRIDAY! Whew, need to sit a mo... feel free to ignore this one.
After juicing the savoury V8 type this morning, and getting that all cleaned up, I started tackling some real rescue work on the rest of the small appliances, counters in the kitchen and around the house. We had a subcontractor coming by at lunch time and I wanted things to be more presentable.
Suddenly, I got a call from my better half saying they (and he) would be here within 30 minutes! Lordy me, I was still in pj's even. Thought I had hours! Thus ensued a mad rush to get company-ready. My ds pitched in to help a bit, shmopped up the muddy dog prints for me. I managed to get decent before their truck drove up!
All that rush and they didn't even come into the house, nor stay long. lol Garage and yard only. So I'm sitting here, streetready but a bit dehydrated (water will be next), trying to refocus and rearrange my day's expectations...
... and thinking it's almost lunch... I deserve that bottle of carrot cake juice I have left over from 2 days ago. But first, water. And now that I've written it down, I'm not real enticed by the sweet. It's water that calls my name. I can have sweet dessert-like juice later if I want. For now, I'm wanting savoury juice in the mornings. And my ETL salad at lunch. So I'll be in good shape to hit Sprouts after lunch. I'm very close to totally out of greens!
Another low cal juice recipe
Morning everyone! Day 2 is here and I've had Australian gold for breakfast along with some warm green tea. I cannot believe I made it through day 1 YASSSS! Today's goal is to tweak my mean green recipe and after looking at Leslie's version below I can see I went way crazy with a few of the ingredients. Bottom line if I don't like the taste I won't ingest so off to the store then the kitchen I go.
I'll check in later on. POOF sending good vibes to all :)
I suggest if you don't like it you buy an extra pineapple and add a small piece of pineapple It can really improve the taste for new juicers. also you can try adding in a pear or extra apple and some people really enjoy an extra lemon. And Kale can be a bit bitter so if you are making beet juices by beets with the tops on and juice the tops instead of kale, or substitute a handful of spinach, or chard leaves. Kale is hard for many to get used to. I grow my own Kale and my favorite variety is called premier. It is less bitter more juice in the stems.

You've got it, goodvibes68. You can actually taste the ingredients, some of them, before juicing -- just in case the celery or cukes or something else you get are bad and bitter, like they can be from growing conditions some Summers. (Don't want to ruin a batch!)
Beyond that, personal taste is so much a part of what we tolerate.
We do seem to develop a tolerance over time for some greens. Start where you can. I don't do many recipes now, after some years of juicing... I just cram all the greens (of the ones I use) into my juice. To me, kale is mild now, but it wasn't when I started! I see recipes and they have a lot less various greens than I use... but that's just my whimsical way at the moment, not a lot of impulse control about what goes into the juice, lol. I'm trying to start looking at recipes.
Thanks for both of your suggestions and input, I totally appreciate every bit of knowledge. Soose, I'm like you in that I do just throw a little of this and that in my cooking and baking recipes and that's how I'm going to approach juicing too. From here I'm not going to be so rigid and follow these recipes to the letter, I use them as a base and for inspiration.
Leslie, yesssssss, I used spinach (love love love spinach) because I'm not a big kale fan, but I over did it on the cucumber and celery. HA! I'll definitely try your suggestion and throw an extra apple in, little less celery/cucumber and I'm thinking of tossing in a few roma tomatoes. One of my favorite veggie based meals is sautéed spinach and tomato and so if I can somewhat replicate that in a juice I'll be super happy.
Made a full blender (two juice pressings for me) full of savoury juice this morning.
Refreshing! We drank over 30 oz, and I put about 26 away in the fridge.
5 Roma tomatoes
juice of small lime (trying to leave zest/peels out for myself right now)
red and yellow bell pepper, equivalent to 3/4 large whole
1 whole large cucumber
3 stalks celery with leaves
handful sprouts (broccoli?)
large handful leaves/stalks from a large cauliflower (hated to waste it, they looked good and were mild)
lacinato kale, about 2-3 cups?
Soose, this one inspired me and so I ran out to the store and grabbed some roma's. I'm going to throw those in with a red bell pepper, spinach, celery, and cucumber.... thanksssssss! :)

Today is Say 16! Where is HeatherS, and how about Hoss? Had a great time with Wyatt, he fought going down for a nap and I convinced him to let me read him a book and he fell asleep in my arms for an hour and a half. Then his mommy came and woke him up. I had stopped at the store and picked up some ribeye steaks and Mark BBQ'd them steak is Wy's favorite but he didn't eat very much. My daughter stayed for dinner, and Wyatt did not want to go home. He cried when he had to get in the car. He was my buddy all afternoon, we will probably have him all day Sunday too, Mommy has been working overtime the last few weeks and wants to have a day to rest,
Spring begins on the 20th though it is not warm enough to plant anything until April. Usually I have my tomato plants potted up for the greenhouse by now. But I haven't been to the nursery. I doubt they have tomatoes in yet because of the cold. Maybe I will drop by today and see what is available.
There is close to 5 inches of rain in the rain gauge. We don't have mudslides unless there has been a fire in our area of N. Ca. S. Ca. has them more routinely, because the place is a desert where they continue to build with no water, so trees and plants are not watered deeply enough to hold the ground and when a soaking rain arrives they tend to get top heavy and slide down the hills. Also there are more fires down there as well due to lack of water. It is so crowded there they just need to stop expanding. It is all about greed.
where's ole HeatherS? can't wait til spring!! another few days!!
dunno why folks in Iowa fix a turkey on day 1?
lettuce us know how day two & 3 go!!
Yep the turkey thing wasn't the brightest idea, but hey my family still eats even though I'm fasting. Thank goodness I've got a hubs that had zero problem taking over in the kitchen so I could run away from their feast LOL.
PS I've sparked my youngest sons interest in these juices (he's a terrible eater my fault) so my plan to help him eat better is on point eh eh eh eh.... I'm going to have him help with juicing some apples and oranges so we can all try fresh juices over the weekend.
Hello everyone! Day one of my first reboot ever. This group has excellent posts, lots of great information. Note to self, do not roast a turkey for your family on your first day of a fast. LOL, it's smells like Thanksgiving in this house, ahhhh sigh. I look forward to getting to know you all, learning, exploring, and becoming a juicer!
POOF sending good vibes out, we've got this woot! :)
Hello GoodVibes and welcome to the group! I hope you day went well! On to Day 2!
