PROTEIN POWDER QUESTION???

Group Reboots

Posted by lightningskyes on 3 years ago

I live in the UK and it is too expensive to have Joe's pea/rice protein powder shipped here. Hopefuly one day there will be a distributor over here. Maybe that's something to look into. I've used Growing Naturals Rice protein powder in smoothies before. What I'm wondering is if anyone has ever mixed the rice and pea protein powders together. I'm asking because Joe's has a combination of the 2. Any suggestions???

Good morning, I do have organic spirulina. I forgot I had bought some as it was hiding behind the bowls of fruit! My friend who juices had suggested I use this, however I was not aware it was a source of protein. I thought it was one of the superfoods but did not know anything about it. Thank you for sharing with me. I've a lot to learn and discover on this journey. May I ask...how long have you been juicing? Are you doing juice only or ? How are you finding it?

I use to be addicted to bread... adding that to the immense stress I use to have at home (went through a divorce) I developed many health problems like insomnia, extremely sleepy after eating, so much it interfered with my job, gluten intolerance and several other food allergies, mental fog, restless leg syndrome... After a while I was a total mess. That's when I came across the video "fat, sick and nearly dead". I knew immediately that was my way to recovery. I tried one juicing that lasted 30 days, but it was so hard!! I was always starving, had severe die-off symptoms, nightmares , strong cravings and every week made exceptions to my juicing, adding soups and some raw meals here and there. Even then, I lost 24 pounds and felt so much better after the 30 days. So this time Im trying to do 60 days, am currently on my 15th day and it has been so much easier this time, Im impressed. I have not done any exceptions, I've stuck faithfully to the juices and am loosing about 1 pound a day. I think the secret is sticking to the juice strictly. What I read is that if you juice like smoothies, with all the fiber, or eat salads, you are turning your stomach "on" and so will feel so much hungrier all the time. But if you stick to juices only, no fiber in them (through the colander), then the juice goes straight to the intestines where it is processed, and your stomach stays "off", thus hardly feeling hungry at all. And that is exactly how its working for me. I make 1 full pitcher of juice (64 oz) in the morning with 1 bunch of celery, 1 bunch of kale or any other greens like spinach, cabbage... 4 cucumbers , 8 apples usually green, 2 inches of raw ginger (some days I take a break off the ginger) and this week I am adding about 6-8 carrots to my juice to change the taste a little. I add 1 teaspoon of spirulina because any more than that will greatly impact the taste of the juice, but you cannot overdose with spirulina so you can put 2-3 tablespoons if you want, but for me the taste is too strong. The spirulina, even if its only a teaspoon will give you a lot of energy, will suppress hunger and will give you 6 grams of protein (which natural doctors say is all you need a day). Also spirulina will move your bowel a little more. Then I just drink from it all day, when I go out I put it in water bottles in my purse. I also drink 12 oz of coconut water a day, that will keep the muscle cramps away because it is rich in electrolytes. And as long as I keep it handy and drink every 2 hours, I will not be hungry at all. I also drink several glasses of water a day. So far, so good and Im exited because Im not spending all day in the kitchen making a juice every 2 hours. That morning pitcher takes me 1 hour to wash and cut the veggies and apples, plus juice it and run it through a colander so it wont have extra particles. Wow, sorry I wrote you a whole huge letter!!! but I hope it helps you :)

Hi Coconut Rush, No worries about the 'whole huge letter'! I end up writing mini novels when I send a text ...partly because I don't use text speak...but mainly because I prefer conversation rather than abbreviated snippets.

Anyways...I really appreciate your letter and all the info you've shared. My tastebuds haven't fully engaged yet so there isn't very much in way of the juices that I am enjoying yet...I simply drink them down knowing they are healthy for me. I am hoping this will soon improve. My body feels like it is coming out of the detox aspect...so hopefully I will begin tasting the juices as they actually are. I am doing strictly juicing for 60...and will see how I feel at that point if I want to go another 30 or begin to introduce solids again. I'm not focusing on that too much right now, though I am paying attention to others experiences when they reintro solids again and what is working and what isn't.

You sound like you are doing really well with your juicing!!!

What you share about the fibre and about the stomach turning on or off makes perfect sense. I'm drinking something every two hours, be it juice, coconut water, water and herbal teas so I find the hunger is not really an issue. When I do feel it coming on I drink something and it settles again quickly. I'm not keen on the coconut water...but I've taken to making extra morning juice so I can mix it with the water (like in the recipes in the book for coconut water). I find this helps some. I started using spirulina yesterday in my lunch smoothie and today I added it to my lunch and my dinner ones. I don't mind the taste of it...though it is only a teaspoon at a tyme. I also started adding organic bee pollen and flax seed to my morning smoothie and yesterday afternoon I really felt the difference. I was able to stay focused and ride my spin bike 3miles and get a few things done. It feels good to have my energy coming back. Today I went for a mile walk (I have mobility issues from a motorcycle wreck many many moons ago...so walking can be tricky) and it was hard...but I felt really good. It took me 2336 steps. I felt like counting them ...out of curiosity...as I've been seeing things about walking 10,000steps a day.

I weighed myself the morning of day 3 (so it was only 2 actual days of juicing) and have released 6lbs. I'll weigh the morrow (morning of day 6). I also did full body measurements before beginning as I know that when I have lost weight before I always hit a point where I look bigger to me than when I started...and I came to realise it is an illusion due to the way/places I lose it first...so I find that measuring monthly gives me a realistic guide as to how I am doing.

I had a doctor once who had me weigh in on 3 different scales in her office because she thought the first scale was broken. She said there is no way I could weigh as much as it said...because my size did not look like I should weigh so much. That is one of the things I know about me too. When I have been small in size, I can still 'weigh' alot. Maybe I have dense mass or something...I don't know...but it is another reason why I measure as an indicator.

Thank you for your recipe. I'll give it a go. I don't like drinking out of plastic, and only have a couple glass containers, so have not been able to store more than 1 1/2 juices at a tyme...so I am juicing alot during the day...feels like that's all I do sometymes. I work from home so I've got the tyme to do so. I have ordered 500ml mason jars so I can do all my juicing in the morning for the day. It makes more sense to do so on so many levels.

Well...it looks like I've written you one huge letter too!

It would be good to stay in contact with you if you're up for that?

Yes, of course you can use rice and pea protein powders together and try to make your own protein powder. There are alot of great protein powders out there, some better, the same, and some worse than Joe's. I do not use Joe's protein powder, because I already had my own. It is made by Orgain, www.orgain.com. It is Organic, plant based with rice, chia seed, hemp, and pea protein. I get my stuff through www.orgain.com. They have a huge assortment of protein powders. Maybe you can research that site, and find one that is made close to you. Or find one you like that is sold in a store near you.

What day are you on? Joe and his Reboot Nutrionists recommend adding protein powder after Day 15. How are you doing?

Hello RM...thank you for the info. I will look into it. I still have some organic bee pollen and crushed flax seeds, so I have added them to my morning juice and I have organic spirulina that I've added to my lunch juice and after doing this the 'fog' lifted and my energy rose enough I rode 3miles on a spin bike yesterday and walked a mile this afternoon (it was too bloody cold to walk farther) today. I've ordered some organic hemp powder so I will have it on hand for day 16. I am on day 5 as I write this. Hunger has not been a real issue for me after day 1...maybe that is because I am drinking either juice, coconut water , water or herbal tea every 2hrs. If I let it go longer than the hunger starts to hit...but it's not too bad right now.

Hey Lightningskyes, yes I had huge hunger problems too the first 10 days. Yes, I also drank juice every 2 hours starting as early in the morning as you can. I was drinking 96 ounces of juice for a couple weeks, due to hunger. How many ounces of juice are you drinking? Glad to hear your fog has lifted. Also glad to hear that you have some bee pollen, flax seeds, and spirulina to use. They are all great.

Do you all find that adding protein powder to your drinks stops the weight loss? I have been adding plant based (pea and brown rice) protein powder for about a week now and have hardly lost any weight :(

Other ingredients in the protein powder? I just started trying one that is enriched with vitamins, yesterday... not too sure of taking this stuff.
