Hey there from Oregon. I have had my juicer for years and had previous doctors says that I shouldn't juice without eating because of all the carbs, less fiber, not balanced, etc. I have med high cholesterol (268 total), I am pre-diabetic and take metformin, and have worked with naturopaths for years trying to maintain a healthy weight. I am currently about 30 pounds too heavy. 56 yrs (57 in March) female, 5'10", former runner with 6 full marathons under my belt. Oh the days when my knees allowed me to just run the weight away. By most US standards, I was eating very healthy. No soda, no fast food, few simple carbs - but no combination of diet or exercise - short of eating basically zero carbs - would move the weight. And I mean zero - not even veggie carbs. So I am throwing out the old language and diving into full on juicing. No concern for carbs, just making sure I am getting "enough" juice, water, herbal tea, coconut water and I think starting this weekend, bone broth.

I started this journey at 187.7 Wed morning. I began my day with fasting blood work - which is cool cause I started my juicing immediately after giving blood. I think I am going to do 15 days, assess, and keep doing 15 day increments so long as I feel good. Which I hope/expect. This morning after the first day, I was 184.1. Crazy. I also walk close to 5 miles every day with my dog, and after the first week, if my energy is good, I a going to add in some weight training. I am not good at following recipes - but i strive for 75% veggies, 25% fruit. After reading some other posts, I also suspect I will be making bone broth this weekend - I am already finding myself cold all the time!

I am so inspired by all the brave people who post their struggles and progress. The desire to be healthy, not thin, was finally what tipped the scales, so to speak, for me. Thin would be an excellent by product though for sure.

I am always amazed that when I share with people - coworkers, friends, and even some family - that I want to do this fairly unusual program to find my healthiest self, so many people promptly say, you look great, you're not fat, that doesn't sound like a good idea. So many of these same people often complain about their own frustration with their own health.

I hope to be successful, as much for my own quality of life, as to hopefully be an example for those around me I care about.

If you made it to here, thanks for listening and I agree - let's help each other. So if I can help any of you, just tell me how. K Marie

You will find that your body will heal fairly quickly after the 10th day. You are probably going to have an easier transition than most.

Hi First keep up the good work. You are an inspiration. How do you make bone broth? I see it in the health food store but it's so expensive and I'd rather make everything I can oppose to buying. I'm only on the end of day 2 but I feel wonderful. Hope it keeps up.OH and I'm down 2.2 lbs but like you weight loss is a side effect to getting healthy but a welcomed side effect! lol thanks for post. I love reading everyones posts.

    Thanks Juice on

Halfway through Day 5. Not very hungry, actually. I have a movie group outing this weekend, and am planning a strategy to join everyone in dining out. I am thinking I'll allow myself a light salad and some lemon water, maybe a cup of tea also. A bowl of soup, depending of the what it is could be equally viable. There is no rule that says I have to finish it, and just picking is what I plan to do, so as not to disrupt my cleanse very much. Sitting there with a juice, will be too awkward, and the last thing I want to do is answer a lot of questions and hear a bunch of unsolicited advice. All suggestions on a a strategy are welcome.

Reclaim here are my thoughts. Water and lemon is perfect. That is what I drink all day long. Find the garden salad on the menu and ask for vinegar and oil. Most restaurants will serve them separately if you ask in small serving bottles. Just use some vinegar or just splash some extra lemon on the salad and enjoy. Picking through the meal is good, but one salad won't derail you. I had to go to a family birthday party on Day 2 and did the same thing. I've also been invited to lunch by a former boss and I had to tell him that I will join, but I am fasting for a doctor's visit. Much like you, I'm not ready to bring juice to a restaurant and also have to explain myself. One person at work and you guys and gals here are my only support right now. I've gotten a lot of negative feedback from others. I plan to make some more progress before I start exclaiming all of the health benefits. The social aspects of eating are going to be the toughest part of this. Do your best and we will all get through this together. Feel good that you aren't thinking that you'll only have a small steak of a half slab of ribs! Your head is in the right place.

My first "date" that is food is with family on the 26th. I was thrilled have some time to get my juicing feet under me first. Then I found out the meal is a veggie frittata - so I might "pick" at some too, but I AM taking juice with me. Good luck and remember you are doing this for your health. I firmly believe that most people are captivated by success...their negativity will diminish as you quietly succeed. Hang in there!

Hey Auroramouse, you've lost 4 pounds in two days! Good for you, you should be very proud of yourself so far. It gets easier, I promise. I'm half way through day 5 and I can't sit still at my desk because I have so much energy. The first several days are hard without a doubt, but you will make it. Now might be a great time to give your fiance a few cooking lessons so you feel less tempted. ;)

I am excited for you, Sergio. I am 4 days in, and you can do it! Not feeling hunger, if anything the mental component is the biggest challenge. When my mind wanders from the goal, I come to the board, and it takes my mind in the right direction.

  • Joe

Hey Sergio good luck today! I'm on the morning of day 5 and my energy is coming back. I'm also down 5 pounds and couldn't be happier with myself. The first several days are going to be tough, so just push through and let us know how you are doing.

Sergio....check to make sure you're not losing nutrients due to oxidation. I think you're suppose to drink your juice within 24 hours otherwise it begins to oxidize and lose nutrients.

  • Sergio

ThreeKings96, ive read on the reboot website that if you freeze the juices they are good for 7 to 10 days.... so my first 2 days worth of juice is refrigerated and the rest are frozen... i have a small refrigerator in my truck... i think ill be ok.... thank you for looking out

HI! I am new here. I am on day one of transition. I have never done a reboot.

  • Stacy

Hello! It's great to have you here, I'm so glad you found our group! It sounds like you are transitioning into juicing by eating the outlined meal plans. That is the easiest way for your body to adapt, and it eases many of the unpleasant symptoms of the detox. Keep checking in and updating us on your progress!

  • Joe

You're making the smart move. I dove straight into all juice and had several of the detox symptoms. It took several days to get over them. Welcome to the group! We are all here if you need support.

Day 4 begins. Surprised that I'm not really hungry. I have missed chewing, though. Having a piece of gum now and then helps. I ate a 2 cubes of watermelon yesterday, but don't consider it a deal breaker. Doing my best. No one has to be perfect, we just need to persevere! Hang tough.

  • Stacy

Sounds like you're doing great! Don't worry about the watermelon. When I did my 60-day I was way too much of a perfectionist. I would have been better served by nibbiling on healthy fruits and veggies and staying on the juicing program. In the end, it's what happens after the juice fast. That's why transitioning is so important.

  • Stacy

I haven't looked at the 10-day plan for awhile, but many of Joe's plans have up to 5 days of transition eating. I'm guessing that your plan moves you towards a 100% juice fast. The transition days help your body ease into the juice fast, and helps reduce the detox symptoms that many experience during the first few days.

To answer your question, you absolutely don't need to do 100% juice. Many people don't, and I frequently juice 2 meals a day and eat a healthy dinner. Many of the benefits from juicing are still experienced in this manner. However, there are many that are not.

When juicing 100% your digestive system is allowed to rest and heal. Your liver is allowed to work full force on detoxing your system. Your body is getting the nutrition it needs while allowing it to rest because the nutrients are readily available for use.

Most experience a surge of energy, increased mental clarity, improved vision and clear skin. I find my mind settles down about food, I rarely think about food and it becomes a very safe, warm place. Juicing 100% is not sustainable, but it is a great way to help your body and change your tastes.

Many "juicers" will drink a few juices everyday and occasionally do a juice only reboot to get back on track. Finding what works best for you and what is sustainable, is really the only thing that's important.

hello everyone. I've spent my day planning for my journey. I only have one question so far, does anyone know how long the juices last when they are refrigerated? oh and to report I'm feeling a bit anxious .. lol I think I will start tomorrow if all goes well..........

  • Stacy

Hey Sergio - Juices will last for up to 3 days refrigerated before losing their nutritional value. You can freeze them to keep them longer. Good luck tomorrow!

  • Joe

Congrats Sergio on getting ready to take the plunge. Stacy is right about the juice, but I would recommend making juice and drinking it immediately for the freshest taste, especially if you are using citrus fruits of any kind. They tend to start to sour the mix after being in the fridge. The first few days are the hardest so do your best.

hi.... ok so I have another question, I was going through the 10 day reboot plan, and I noticed that its not 100% juicing it has salads as meals, so my question is why do 100% juicing if you can have some sort of meal?

  • Sergio

thank you stacy... I'm am preparing my juices right now. have to run to the market, beginners mistakes, I didn't buy enough vegies to make all the juices I have picked for my first 5 days... I am going to freeze some of them, I read that if you freeze they could last up to 7 days... I leave on my trip tonight to N.J. I'm going straight to 100% juicing right of the bat, I have quit smoking,20 years ago, I have quit drinking 6 years ago, now let see if I can quit eating for the next 60 days.....
