I believe the point is to rid your body of all chemicals, caffeine included.

I think the caffeine also will make you retain water........

Actually caffeine is a loop diuretic. Meaning it works in the kidney, in the nephron at a structure called the loop henley. It will block the re-up take of fluid and send it directly to the bladder. My thought is that the fear of dehydration with juicing could only add to this concern if you are drinking coffee. I also believe that you are to free your body of any chemicals, caffeine unfortunately included. :( Also, Alcohol has the exact same action in the kidney as caffeine. Hope this helps.

I have to say that I plan to keep on drinking coffee. As long as you drink lots of water, I am not worried about dehydration. I suppose coffee is my vice and I am willing to risk it.

Interesting comments. I'm a coffee drinker since I was 5 years old! This is one habit I can say I love. Just going by the coffee isle in the market sucks me in. But, I have to say I'm willing to try use the next 3 days to try to break the habit (Day 1 today). It's been long enough, I think I can stand to break away from caffeine.

I'm probably the wrong person to chime in. I am not a purist so I think it's best to do what you feel is right for you. I understand why people want to stop all coffee and meds and etc. But I am not sure if all those rules really set people up to be successful. My goal is success and that means coffee every morning. That said, while I love red wine, that is something I am willing to forgo for awhile. Little steps. -Elise

Hi, Just to let you know that 3 days ago I started a 10 day smoothie-based reboot without withdrawing coffee. Strongly believing in the benefits of the caffeine (Alzheimer incidence reduction etc), I felt that it would not affect the rebooting process. So far so good. I'm drinking water when I feel thirsty, there is no dehydration whatsoever, stools are just fine. IMO, if you feel you want to keep drinking coffee, go for it! Serban

Serban--with your smoothie plan, are you able to loose weight? Not even sure if that is you goal. Also, will you share a recipe? I just started eating veg soup and spinach salad. Only foods I eat are fruit and veg. So far so good. Elise
